Blood Stained Ink

So you’ve found your way to this little blog of mine, and you find yourself wondering: what’s it about?  Well, it’s about a lot things really, but at the very core, it’s about the idea that the “Word became flesh.”  Too churchy-sounding?  Let’s try this.  Imagine for a moment that you have deeply wounded someone that you cared about – someone that you loved, someone that gave meaning to your life.  Imagine for a moment that the wound you inflicted was so deep that this person needed to step away for awhile just to let you sit with the consequences of your actions.  Now imagine, after years of separation, that you find yourself on the battlefields of Afghanistan.  The bodies are piling up all around you.  You haven’t eaten in 36 hours and it’s been even longer since you slept.  But word has come that your friend is making his way to find you.  Against all odds, after years of silence, he is traveling light afoot and making his way through the mountains with a letter clutched tightly in his hand.  Now imagine what it would be see him crest over the hill only to watch him be cut down by a hail of bullets in front of your very eyes … What would you feel?  How you respond?  What would you do with the letter in his hand?  Would it be sacred to you?  Would you cherish it for the rest of your days?

This blog is all about the letter. It’s about the letter that holds the explanation of where your friend has been, what he’s been up to and why he traveled to see you.  It’s about the cost of relationships and the sacred nature of a written word.   Your friend would not have come if it were not for your careless actions all those years ago.  But your friend would not have come if he didn’t love you.  And because of these two truths, your life will be forever marked by the blood stained ink on the letter he longed to deliver.
